Hi fiving is not just a celebratory hand gesture that occurs when two people simultaneously raise one hand, about head high, and push, slide or slap the flat of their palm and hand against the palm and flat hand of their partner (thank you wikipedia definition.)
Hi fiving is also an internet hobby. Creating a five item list or countdown.
It launched on May 10th, 2010. I got to interview the creator of Hifiving, Justin Talbott.
Q: How did you come up with this idea?
A: In a weightless, submerged in a sound-proof water chamber.
Q. Why only 5?
A: With today’s ADD internet world all tweeting and buzzing and whatnot, who has time to come up with/read 10 things? (Justin’s first list making site was called tenning.com… same basic idea but with 10 items) making a list with less time and energy was a motivating factor, but the main reason is that 5 items allows for greater specificity in list topic than 10.
Q: What is your goal with hifiving?
A: Mainly, that people will find it fun and useful. Tenning was a fun community to maintain.

Q: With what do you make a website with?
A: A jalepeño, a diced eggplant, and 2 cloves of garlic.
