On March 8th, JetBlue had an exclusive one day online deal (http://jetblue.com/deals/first-ten/?intcmp=HPHero1Eng_FirstTen). “All remaining seats on the first ten routes they served from New York’s JFK are now on sale for just $10* each way!” Of course they note that it is only valid for one way travel on Tuesday, March 9th and Wednesday, March 10th. They are doing this because they are “celebrating a decade of value, style and award-winning service!”
Being the “work as I please mogul” myself. I can imagine myself hopping on a plane out of nowhere for a one day vacation…Wait, let me rephrase. I can imagine myself taking a 2 hour public transportation ride to JFK, searching for the JetBlue terminal, waiting in line, undergoing security check, waiting for the plane, getting on the plane, waiting in the plane, landing to destination, other airport checking out stuff, figuring how to get out of the airport, figuring out where to go, and then figuring out what to do for my 5-6 hour vacation before going back home. Yeah, I can image that.
But before all that, I have to make the decision to where to vacation based on previous knowledge of my brain and the first paragraph of the city’s Wikipedia page. Here are the choices:
- Fort Lauderdale, FL
Pros: Sunny and beachy. Cons: Sounds like a old timey war zone.
- Buffalo, NY
Pros: The second most populous city in NY state. Complete my goal in visiting every city in New York State. Buffalo wings. Cons: Cold.
- Tampa, FL
Pros: A lot of celebrities were born and raised there, ie: Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys. 5th best outdoor city says Forbes. Cons: Sounds similar to Fort Lauderdale… and any other city in Florida.
- Orlando, FL
Pros: DISNEYWORLD. Cons: Been there done that.
- Rochester, NY
Pros: Garbage Plates. Visiting ever city in NY goal. Cons: Sounds like any other upstate NY city.
- Oakland, CA
Pros: home of Rocky Road ice cream. Cons: Home of the Mai Tai cocktail.
- Burlington, VT
Pros: Everyone I’ve ever met from Vermont seems to be the nicest people ever. Burlington owns their own electricity company. Cons: Burlington Coat Factory (Actually that’s a pro… their clothing sales are amazing!)
- West Palm Beach, FL
Pros: BEACH! RESORTS! PARTYYYY! Cons: Why not just Palm beach… or Palm Springs… or Spring…
- Salt Lake City, UT
Pros: Utah Jazz (actually I don’t know what that would be under Pros… I’m just proud that I know of a basketball team). I have been to Marmalade District and it was beautiful. Cons: Will remind me too much of Big Love…
- Fort Myers, FL
To be honest, never heard of it. Another Florida city with the word fort in it. Their Wikipedia page was the shortest. And half of the page was about the Red Sox spring training facility…
As I press the “Let’s go!” button to Fort Myers, JetBlue redirected me to a page that says:
Due to our transition to a new reservation system, this page is temporarily unavailable. We’re currently working to fix this issue, so please check back later.
Oh, well. Maybe next birthday!

Don’t forget that in Burlington VT you can tour the Ben and Jerry’s factory! That’s right: take the $10 trip to empty calorie highway! (Oh, who are we kidding, it’s Vermont: empty calorie two-lane road!)

Nick Carter was born in Jamestown, New York. He did grow up in Tampa, Florida after moving there with his family as a child.
